“Exposure”, “contrast”,“white balance” and many such terms is what is mostly associated with photography but that is not what photography is all about. Photography is an art which is about looking at the world the way one wants to look at it. Its about capturing a moment in time in it actuality and freezing it forever. Photography gives the required freedom to a person to see what one wishes to see and interpret it according to one’s understanding.
It was in the 1800s that for the first time Thomas Wedgwood made an attempt to capture an image in a camera obscura by means of light-sensitive substance. Though it was not a big success but it was essential in the history of photography as that is how it all began in the first place. Since then it has only progressed and flourished as one among the well-known field of work in the society. With the advent of technology we find a sudden rise in the number of photographers around us. DSLR or digital single-lens reflex camera is a digital camera that helps in the production of smarter photographs that doesn’t need much labor behind it with respect to adjustments or editing. In modern times we observe quite a number of people going around with DSLR camera but does that make a photographer or does it necessarily mean that they serious passion for photography? Absolutely not, people can buy expensive cameras with the aim of gloating about the amount of money they have or just to get few decent photographs. It is said that you require photographer’s eyes in order to capture a particular moment or thing at its best so that it turns out to be something unique which is not visible to a layperson.A photographer has the power to bring out the brutal happenings through the use of photographs which even words will fail to express. Every photograph has the potential to tell a tale and convey meanings which any other medium of communication cannot possibly achieve. Portrait photography is one such form of photography which has the ability to express emotions and feelings in the purest form. Photography has also been a controversial medium as it brings out the truth to the world in its naked form. Ren Hang, a self-taught photographer from Beijing has been one such controversial figure in contemporary times. He has even been arrested several time and his work has been censored. He has very recently won fame globally for his erotic art. All this disagreement is for capturing naked, pale, Chinese youth- wearing nothing other than just blunt expressions.
Photography is not given the amount of thought that it deserves. But with times changing it can be expected of the youth who really have the flair in themselves to come out to the world. Today, there are various social media platforms which have given an open field to the people in order to showcase their talent to the world. This opportunity needs to be used to its epitome and bring to the world what they miss on a daily basis.
