Potato chips- Warning!

Munching on crispy potato chips with a whole happy packet in your hand is quite a bit of tempting vision for a lazy soul out there. In times of your boredom or during the sudden craving moments for something to chew on, a packet of potato chips always comes to the rescue. It tastes good and fills your stomach. But, the health issues it inflicts may not be worth all the crunchiness, after all.

Unnecessary weight gain:

A number of potato chips you scurry down your stomach is directly proportional to the amount of new fat in your already fat belly. Potatoes originally rich in fat content and the frying of potatoes in oil only add to their calorie levels. Dipped and Fried deep in oil and masala, these chips reserve every right to be called weight gainers. Potato chips are more of weight gainers than even processed meats or beverages.


Low nutrition:

Delicious thought they maybe, the amount is nutrient they carry is practically less than average. The only nutritious part of a packet of potato chips is the vegetable content of potatoes. But, they mean nothing in comparison to the abundance of oil and fat that come along. If you include potato chips as a regular part of your diet, you are majorly missing out on other vitamins and minerals that could have made their way inside you otherwise. These chips with their rich fat contents easily fill a considerable portion of your stomach and take up the space of other essential nutritious meals. A handful of chips now and then do not pose much jeopardy but regular intake in large quantities deprives of your diet of healthy nutrition.



Most of these are prepared by deep-frying and this ends up in accumulating trans-fat in the chips, which is extremely peril to health.

Saturated oil using in cooking these are also unhealthy. This increases the fat and cholesterol level in the blood. High cholesterol levels can pave way for coronary heart disease and other heart-related ailments. It also creates obesity problems. Too much oil from the chips can cause pimples in the skin and other gastro-centric troubles.



A few potato chips constitute inconsiderate quantities of salt. Mostly, flavored chips carry even more salt than the normal ones. Salt is an inevitable part of potato chips. But, more than required amount of salt in the diet can cause ailments like high blood pressure and kidney failures. Your body only needs a particular amount of sodium. But, excess consumption of salt can add to sodium level more than necessary.



If you want so bad a snack, the option of alternatives is wide open. Baked potato chips or unsalted opens are far better an option that deep-fried potato chips. Light-fried cashew nuts, pretzels, dry grapes, roasted almonds and baked apple chips can fill your cravings and hunger too.
